Congresswoman Kilpatrick Holds Town Hall Meeting on Health Care Reform
Congresswoman Kilpatrick held a town hall meeting to update residents of the 13th Congressional District on the health care reform bill being discussed in Congress.
Congresswoman Kilpatrick recently hosted a town hall meeting to provide residents of the 13th Congressional District with a legislative update on the health reform bill being discussed in Congress. The Congresswoman and members of her legislative staff shared information about the provisions in the bill with participants. Representatives from several local organizations talked about the importance of health care reform and its impact on the communities, families, small businesses, mental health services, and the uninsured and underinsured. Panelists included Dr. Herbert Smitherman, Assistant Dean of Community and Urban Health at Wayne State University; Mr. Paul Propson, Executive Director of Covenant Community Care; Ms. Roberta Sanders, Executive Director of New Center Community Mental Health Services; Ms. Lydia Gutierrez, President of Hacienda Mexican Foods; Ms. Marge Faville, President of SEIU Healthcare Michigan; and Sister Mary Ellen Howard, Executive Director of the St. Frances Cabrini Clinic of Most Holy Trinity Church.
Participants traveled from all parts of the district, including the Grosse Pointes, Harper Woods, Lincoln Park, River Rouge, Wyandotte, and Detroit, to learn more about health care reform and how it will affect them. Attendees also had a chance to ask questions of Congresswoman Kilpatrick and the panelists.
